MEETING NOTES 6th May 2008

Sponsorship proposal has been sent to Julia Gillard in her capacity of Minister for Education, Follow up date 20th May
JR Suggested increasing the number of Keynotes speakers e.g. 1 each morning and 1 after lunch, if accepted three more are required. - Presenters
Approximately 10 speakers have sent abstracts.
Karen flagged the issue that as the name and of each speakers in know to the speakers committee it will be impossible to us the blind review process. The only way that can be done if future if JR accessed the website first and remove evidence of name and background. Perhaps it to late to use this process, plus there has not been a big response to the call for papers.
Karen to arrange meeting with Kerry and Mary to review the situation before the next meeting. -

JR met with caterer to walk through the catering concepts and possible locations foe conference food. - Conference Dinner options
Will need to make a decision soon to be ready for Brochure print run. The meeting seemed happy with the Strathmore Hotel as its located in the same area as most of the hotels. - Expo

A selection of hotels close by the Hawke centre have been earmarked and will be promoted in the registration brochure and on the website. - Sponsorship

Karen reported that 15 or more speakers will be required make up a viable conference program. Karen also commented that there should be more direction from Grant to assist the speakers committee with their challenge to develop a full conference program. - Audio Visual

JR spoke to grant about becoming proactive and to keep in touch with his papers committee to assist with the program. Graham Cox suggests that a draw card speaker such as George Negus could be approached to headline the conference. Graham and Grant to meet over the next to week to discuss idea’s to widen the range of speakers because the conference need to look at mixing some not academic speakers. Grant to start looking for these types of speakers .
